In keeping with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's thrust on employment gen-ration through various initiatives and programs like the Skill India, Make in India, and the proposed National Employment Policy (NEP) aimed at creating sector-wise strategy to improve the potential of job creation, Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce &Industry, and Som Parkash, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, have called upon officials in various government sectors to identify and create new opportunities for up-skilling and preparing the youth for self-employment and jobs. Going a step further, Som Parkash has set a mission for all organizations within his ministry to identify any untapped employment potential within their industry and take all necessary measures to train the youth and fill the gaps. Accordingly, P. Kumar, Jt. Chief Controller of Explosives (HOD) of the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation(PESO) is spearheading a programme for engineering graduates to enhance their competency and serve as safety advisors to various private and public sector companies with hazardous and explosive substances and processes. The programme entails exhaustive preparatory training courses on weekly basis with mock interviews so as to enable them to successful pass the written exams conducted by National Productivity Council across the country for selection of competent persons under the Static & Mobile Pressure Vessels (Unfired)Rules, 2016 & the Petroleum Rules, 2002; and, interviews in person or through virtu-al platform by senior officials of PESO for selection of competent persons.
