The joint chief controller of explosives, P Kumar, who is head of the department of Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO), has initiated a skill development programme for engineering graduates to work as safety advisors. PESO has its headquarters at Nagpur. Chemical, mechanical, metallurgical, and marine engineers with at least five years of experience in operation, maintenance of static or mobile pressure vessels (unfired) are eligible for the competency enhancement campaign. Similarly, any engineering graduate with minimum ten years of experience in operation and maintenance of petroleum storage installation can seek competency enhancement. The training is in line with Prime Minister Modi's initiatives under Skill India and Make in India. Union minister Piyush Goyal called upon officials of government bodies to identify opportunities for upskilling.
